3 Simple Ways to Grow Your Relationship With God

3 Simple Ways to Grow Your Relationship With GodDo you want to get closer to God? In other words, do you want to grow your relationship with God? If you’re reading this blog, your answer is most likely, “yes.” That’s wonderful! So, how is it going, this journey to get closer to God?

Perhaps, you’re confidently down the road to growing your relationship with God. Or, it could be that you have started, but you’re faltering. It could even be that you have found some stumbling blocks in the way. It’s even possible that the places where you expected to get help have fallen short. Whatever your situation may be, know that there are simple ways to grow your relationship with God.

Grow Your Relationship With God With Desire

This is such a simple but important way that it is easily overlooked. It’s one thing to say that you want to get closer to God. Here’s the question? Do you really want it? Search deep within your heart to know whether or not it’s just words and wishful thinking. After all, a desire is stronger than a wish, even though the two are related. A desire will move you. In this context, a desire will move you to seek God, and once that happens, there will be movement, for God says,  “When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).

Grow Your Relationship With God by Dwelling

As important as the desire to be close to God is, don’t stop there. Move on and learn to dwell with God. Quiet your spirit and reach out to God continually, even when your environment does not seem favorable. Live with an awareness of God being present and active in your life so that you cultivate the sense of God’s presence. For make no mistake, once you have committed your life to God in Christ Jesus, the Triune God is already present (Matthew 28:20 b).  Now that you’re acknowledging God’s presence in your life and dwelling with God, it remains for you to listen to God.

Grow Your Relationship by Devoting Yourself to Listen to God

Relationships are two-way. Don’t always talk. Devote yourself to listen to God. After all, Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). This is hearing that goes beyond the superficial. You know that superficial, “I’m listening” that you tell another when your mind is far away? It’s deeper than that. This hearing carries the connotation of attentiveness and consideration. That’s will help to carry you forward to do as God says—attentiveness and consideration. Find time to shut out the outer and inner noise to listen to God.

Your relationship with God is important. You know it. Simply put, do something about growing it by desiring God, dwelling with God, and devoting yourself to listen.
