Dear Lord,
Dear Lord . . .
Sometimes we don’t know
where to start—
we feel so helpless.
How do you pray,
dear Lord,
when you feel helpless?
Holy Spirit,
be our helper.
Dear Lord,
a lot is happening.
Sometimes we try to shut
out the noise
that comes from the constant
beep and buzz around us—
devices of our own choosing.
(Why do we feel that we need
to know the news
as soon as it happens, especially
when they only give us
bad news?)
When you feel helpless,
dear Lord,
because they only send you
bad news;
when you feel helpless,
dear Lord,
because they are butchering
your brothers and sisters
in other lands;
when you feel helpless,
dear Lord,
in the face of unrest;
when you feel helpless,
dear Lord,
because you’re surrounded by lies
and people who say,
“all is well” in the face of
things that are spiraling down
and they prefer to believe
a lie;
when the future looks gloomy
and you feel helpless . . .
Dear Lord,
in all these situations
and so much more
we turn to you,
eternal, unchanging one,
our strong deliverer.
We turn to you and say
for what we cannot say,
please help us.
