Did you need to know that? Did you need to know it right then? It’s easy to know everything right away, isn’t it? You’re dealing with a 24-7 news cycle. It gets even better than that. You don’t have to wait until you have time to check the news. You can download an app or sign up to have alerts delivered to you. Sounds good, right? There’s a downside, however, that indicates that it’s time for wisdom.
Media is driven by ratings and hits, for the most part. This translates into the need to get attention. What gets people’s attention the most? Bad news, it seems. Certainly that’s a lot of what we see and hear. Another shooting . . . . Someone missing . . . . A fatal accident . . . . Bombing in . . . . Massacre at . . . . ______ fail . . . . There’s lots of that. Of course, there’s some other things happening in the entertainment, sports, technology sections, etc. Those don’t always make it to the top, however. Even then, the scandals take center stage. It’s time for wisdom if you’re going to avoid being sucked in, feeling helpless and/or hopeless and/or stuck on trivial matters.
Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:15-16).
Its’ Time for Wisdom That Starts With God
As you read the Bible, you understand that there is no wisdom outside of God. Indeed, that’s where wisdom starts: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight” (Proverbs 9:10). We have a great example of the opposite, of folly, in Luke 12:16–21. In that passage, a wealthy man put his confidence in himself and his wealth. He planned his future without reference to God and just like that, he was gone, leaving it all behind.
So, when it’s time for wisdom, it’s time to start with a holy awe of God. It’s time to put your confidence in God and listen to hear what God how God would have you be and what God will tell you to do. This is listening to God’s teaching in the Scripture as well as what God says to you in prayer. Most importantly, however, it’s doing what God says. As Jesus explained, the wise person was the one who obeyed his teachings (Matthew 7:24-27). Thus, even if everyone is running east in fear, if God says go west, that’s were you head, with peace and confidence.
Moreover, this is wisdom that helps you to understand the times in which you and what is happening all around you.
Indeed, there is a lot that is happening all around you. It is coming at you 24-7. Yes. It is time. It is time to start with God and pray for direction because it is time for wisdom.
“‘Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock‘” (Matthew 7:24).
Experience God more fully through honest, surrendered heart praying and live with greater clarity and peace.
